(bitter) sweet victory

To say I’m shocked is an understatement; the winless New York Giants just beat the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers. From the jump, this game felt completely different. I honestly can’t remember the last time MetLife Stadium was that loud during a kickoff. There was a real buzz in the air as fans awaited Jaxson Dart’s highly anticipated NFL debut. And he answered the call. After the Giants defense forced a quick three-and-out, it was finally time for #6 to take the field. Dart led a methodical drive with both his legs and arm, capping it off by running it in himself, and hitting the best dance move I’ve ever seen from a Giants quarterback. image via giants.com Dart finished the game with 111 passing yards and a touchdown, plus 54 rushing yards and another score on the ground. While those stats don’t exactly jump off the screen, anyone watching at home or in the stadium could see he was the difference-maker. I also want to thank Shane Bowen for not playing Abdul Carter at middle lineback...

the tortured fans department

Well, to the shock of absolutely nobody, the Giants lost to the Chiefs last night. Going in, it never really felt realistic that Kansas City would fall to 0-3, and while the game wasn’t a total blowout, it never truly felt close either. I originally thought we’d see a few questionable calls go the Chiefs’ way, but in the end, it didn’t even come down to that. It came down to, once again, an absolute embarrassment of an offensive performance under the lights. The Giants have now played 40 primetime games dating back to 2015; in those games, the Giants have a win-loss record of 9-31.  Although for this loss a chunk of the blame can go on Russell Wilson, who threw some head-scratching throws and absolutely egregious interceptions, I am once again putting this game on the coaches. If you read my article last week, you know my thoughts on DC Shane Bowen, who again started Abdul Carter at middle linebacker this week. But putting that aside, this one is on Brian Daboll. bowen - 2

After watching last Sunday’s Ravens-Bills showdown, I was ready to crown it the unquestioned Game of the Year. Shockingly, the Giants and Cowboys delivered an even more electrifying overtime thriller. Things started off hot on the opening kick; returner Gunner Olszewski took it back 60 yards, only to have it erased by a holding penalty. And that was just the beginning. Backup left tackle James Hudson, who's in for the injured Andrew Thomas, went on to set an NFL record for most penalties committed by a single player on one drive, each one wiping out positive gains by the offense. (James Hudson getting in the face of Giants O-line Coach/image via FOX) After settling for a field goal, Hudson was yanked in favor of rookie Marcus Mbow, and that’s when the Giants finally found their rhythm. From there, Russell Wilson started cooking. Russ threw his first TD of the season late in the second quarter with Malik Nabers going up and making a miraculous grab in the endzone.  From there, it wa...

they do this every year

Well, postgame blogs are back, and so are the Giants losing in the most embarrassing fashion possible in Week 1 of the NFL season. This game was the third consecutive opener where the Giants failed to score a single touchdown, something that was last done by the Detroit Lions in the 1940s. Not ideal. First off, credit to whoever runs the Giants’ PR department. Every offseason, they somehow convince us fans that the tide is finally turning, only for us to be humbled within minutes of turning on the TV in Week 1. The defense actually started strong against an elite Commanders offense. They held their own right up until linebacker Micah McFadden went down with a gruesome injury. The very next play, his backup Darius Muasau lost his man in coverage and gave up an easy touchdown to Zach Ertz. The Giants’ offense answered with a long drive, but what followed was one of the most pathetic sequences I’ve seen in years, which is saying something. Thanks to penalties, the Giants had seven straigh...
