blown calls and busted ankles

If you told me week one that Cam Skattebo would miss a majority of his rookie year, I would have asked you how many concussions it took to do it. In no world would I imagine such a gruesome injury happening to such a strong human being. (image via Matt Slocum - AP) But Skatt wouldn’t have even been in that situation if it weren’t for the referees. Now, before I get into the officiating, let me be clear: I don’t believe the refs cost the Giants the win. However, they undoubtedly stripped them of their chance to stay competitive. There were legitimately four or five blatant missed calls that went in favor of the Eagles, allowing the game to slip away from Big Blue. The most egregious, and the one that’s already going viral on social media, was Jalen Hurts’ non-fumble on the infamous “tush push.” I’m not exaggerating when I say it might be one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen on a football field. During Philadelphia’s signature “brotherly shove” play, Hurts extended the ball to...

mile high meltdown

Boy oh boy, just when I thought we were done inventing new way to lose football games, we do it again. In quite literally the worst loss I have ever seen as a Giants fan, and maybe even the worst in NFL history. After leading 19-0, the Giants let up 33 fourth-quarter points, losing 33-32. For the first three quarters, it felt great to be a Giants fan again. Our rookie QB shining on the road against the league's best defense, while our pass rushers were terrorizing Bo Nix. Then things just fell apart.  I've watched the Giants all my life, at this point it's almost as if I have a sixth sense for when they're about to blow a game. Right after the Broncos scored that first touchdown to make it 19-8, I started to get that eerie feeling. And sure enough my spidey-senses were correct.  Dart took an awkward hit in the third quarter causing him to limp off the field. This changed the way the Giants had to call the game, forcing them to relying heavily on the run. The Broncos ca...

i used to pray for times like this

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!! The Giants got to Hurts, bottled up Saquon, and watched Dart and Skattebo shine under the lights as they stunned the Eagles in primetime. Before last night, the last time the Giants won on Thursday Night Football was over 10 years ago on September 24th, 2015. It's sure been a long decade, but it truly felt like a franchise-changing win. That may seem like an overreaction, but beating a division opponent in primetime in that fashion is something I can't remember Big Blue ever doing.  Jaxson Dart got things started with an electric opening drive, finished off with a 20-yard scramble all the way for a touchdown. Things only got better from there, as the next drive was capped off by Wandale Robinson, who made a defender miss on a short throw and was able to outrun the rest of the secondary and take it to the crib. A few Eagles touchdowns later, the game had tightened up. But the Giants answered right back, driving down the field for two straight Cam Skattebo ...

voodoo blues

Just when I thought the stink surrounding the New York Giants had finally vanished, it came right back in the Bayou. After taking down the previously undefeated Los Angeles Chargers, the G-Men followed it up with an embarrassing loss to the winless New Orleans Saints. The Giants came out hot, marching down the field on their first two offensive drives, which were both capped off with Theo Johnson touchdown catches. For a moment, they looked so dominant I started to believe they might have a real shot at taking down the Eagles on Thursday. But reality hit me pretty quickly after that. From there, the Saints rattled off 26 unanswered points, and the Giants’ brief spark was put right out. Darius Slayton kicked off the fumble parade just as the Giants entered field goal range late in the first half. In the third, Jaxson Dart coughed up the ball on a play where he was quite literally untouched, and Cam Skattebo added a costly red-zone fumble as the Giants were driving to retake the lead ( w...
