motown madness

Following the fifth blown 10-point lead on the road, the Giants finally decided early this morning to part ways with defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. This move should’ve happened back in Week 3 or 4, but at least the Giants are finally starting to open their eyes and make some much-needed changes. That said,  I thought the Giants did an OK job on defense yesterday, all things considered. Even with Kayvon Thibodeaux and Paulson Adebo sidelined, the Giants were still able to get to Jared Goff early and rattle him enough to knock him out of rhythm. Big Blue also did a nice job containing Jahmyr Gibbs on the early drives, the problem was it didn’t last long. In the second half, Gibbs ran in two touchdowns, including the game-sealer. He finished with a monster stat line: 219 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. jameis win-less

Although the Giants are in the middle of a five-game losing streak with no end in sight, I wanted to start this week’s blog on a positive note. This weekend, DomwithaBlog got the chance to see one of his all-time favorite athletes don a Giants jersey for the first time. I’ve been a Jameis Winston fan for as long as I can remember, so watching him rip a QB sneak in person was an unreal moment. Now, swinging things back to reality, I write this today, still awaiting the firing of Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. Although I don’t think yesterday’s loss was completely on him, I believe he'll be off the team before Thanksgiving because of just about every other game. Bowen once again refused to throw blitzes at Jordan Love, giving him time to make some incredible throws, plus Christian Watson made two remarkable TD catches on both Banks and rookie Korie Black. Speaking of Banks, watching the game in person, I could really see the minimal effort that he gives week in and week ou...

windy city whiplash

I held off a little on writing the blog this week in hopes that the Giants would fire one of their coaches early this morning. As of 11 a.m., when I’m writing this, all of Brian Daboll, Joe Schoen, and Shane Bowen still have their jobs. I’ve said time and time again I don’t like calling for people’s jobs, but after yesterday’s debacle, I truly feel there’s no more defending Daboll or Bowen. The first example of their utter incompetence was displayed by Shane Bowen on Chicago's first TD drive. Dropping Burns (the NFL’s sack leader) into pass coverage against the Bears’ best receiver while blitzing Dru Phillips (the Giants' best coverage corner), allowing an easy first down and leading to a quick score for the Bears. Not to mention Bowen again sent just three on a crucial fourth down in the fourth quarter, the same exact mistake he made in both Dallas AND Denver. The even worse decision-maker on Sunday was Brian Daboll, who forced our rookie QB to be battered and beaten into a co...

mccaf-fried

It’s yet another disappointing Monday, as while I’m writing this, Shane Bowen still has a job.  After yesterday’s disastrous performance, it feels like all hope is lost. The juice brought by Dart and Skattebo is all but gone now, completely sucked away by horrendous coaching. And I know I sound like a broken record, but unfortunately, the Giants are at that point in the season where losses pile up and start to blend together. Shane Bowen’s defense, which now ranks in the bottom three in the league against the run, gave up 159 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, led by 49ers superstar Christian McCaffrey.  Not to mention, he allowed backup quarterback Mac Jones to go the entire first half without throwing an incompletion. Is all of this on coaching? Not entirely. Outside of Brian Burns, our defensive line has been flat-out underwhelming. As many of you probably heard, Giants legend Carl Banks went as far as to call out Dexter Lawrence, saying, “Nobody respects you any...
