jameis win-less

Although the Giants are in the middle of a five-game losing streak with no end in sight, I wanted to start this week’s blog on a positive note. This weekend, DomwithaBlog got the chance to see one of his all-time favorite athletes don a Giants jersey for the first time. I’ve been a Jameis Winston fan for as long as I can remember, so watching him rip a QB sneak in person was an unreal moment.

Now, swinging things back to reality, I write this today, still awaiting the firing of Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. Although I don’t think yesterday’s loss was completely on him, I believe he'll be off the team before Thanksgiving because of just about every other game.

Bowen once again refused to throw blitzes at Jordan Love, giving him time to make some incredible throws, plus Christian Watson made two remarkable TD catches on both Banks and rookie Korie Black. Speaking of Banks, watching the game in person, I could really see the minimal effort that he gives week in and week out. Not only does he get blown by, but he gets out-physicaled and refuses to put his body on the line to make a tackle. Instead, he tries to arm-tackle and gets run right through.

On the positive side, Isaiah Hodgins had a solid first game back. He caught 5 balls on 6 targets for 57 yards. In addition to that, Tyrone Tracy looked like his 2024 self, running for 88 yards, and Jameis was able to actually throw receivers open. Considering some of those guys were literally signed to the team this week, I was pretty impressed with the offense, all things considered.

Funny enough, I think this was one of the more complete games the Giants have played in the last two seasons. Despite the loss, I think it’s clear this team is building toward something, as they are in these games even without Nabers, Skatt, and Dart. They just need some leaders in the locker room.

This was even more evident this morning when the news came out that Giants first-round pick Abdul Carter was benched for the first drive of Sunday’s game because he slept through a walkthrough practice last week.

In response to this report from Giants writer Dan Duggan on X, Carter replied, “Was not sleep, actually doing recovery. Nonetheless, that’s on ME!”

Although he is a young rookie, it is unacceptable to sleep through a practice, especially as a guy the Giants have invested a top pick in. I do, though, appreciate him taking accountability for his actions. With that said, if the Giants had a real leader of men in the locker room at either the head coach or the defensive coordinator position, this whole situation could have been avoided entirely. That's why it's so crucial to really nail this next head coaching hire. The whole situation is not a good look for Carter or for the team; it just seems very sloppy from the outside looking in.

Next week the G-Men are back on the road as they head to Detroit to take on the 6-4 Lions, with the possibility of getting Jaxson Dart back.

Houston is a Problem

In a wild NBA weekend, the Oklahoma City Thunder won the franchise's first-ever championship, Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles, and Kevin Durant was traded to the Rockets. As crazy as it sounds, the Durant news felt more important to me as an NBA fan than Game 7. The Thunder felt like a team of destiny all playoffs long, and after Haliburton went down, it all but solidified they’d become champs. But this article is focused on the next chapter of KD's career in H-Town. Yesterday afternoon, while on stage at Fanatics Fest in New York, Kevin Durant found out he had been traded to the Houston Rockets in exchange for the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft, five second-round picks, Jalen Green, and NBA “villain” Dillon Brooks. (image via theringer.com) This marks the end of the big three of Booker, Beal, and Durant in Phoenix—yet another failed superteam on KD’s résumé. But this move to Houston feels different. Durant, who admitted Houston was at the top of his preferred destination li...

Sin City, Win City: The Knicks Hold the Cup

THE KNICKS HAVE WON A TROPHY! Last night, the Knicks took on the up-and-coming Spurs in the championship game of the third annual NBA Cup Tournament  in Las Vegas, and walked away with hardware. Sure, not the one that everyone who bleeds orange and blue wants to hold, but you still can't stop me from celebrating! (via @nyknicks on Instagram) After carrying the Knicks to the title game while averaging 33 points per Cup game , Jalen Brunson started slow against the elite defense of Stephon Castle. While Brunson didn’t dominate the scoreboard the way he had earlier in the tournament, he still finished with 25 points and made the shots that mattered most in the fourth quarter.  With that said, this game was ultimately won by New York’s bench . Brunson summed it up perfectly in his postgame interview, "OG Anunoby, Tyler Kolek, Jordan Clarkson, Mitchell Robinson, they played their ass off. Without them, we don’t win this sh*t.”  And yeah, he's absolutely right. Down 10 i...
