tommy touchdowns

After last week, I did not think I would be writing another victory monday blog for the rest of the season yet here we are.

The G-Men entered the game as 9 point underdogs against their division foes the Washington Commanders. The sportsbooks, like most of us, did not expect much from the Tommy DeVito led Giants. But boy were they wrong.

New York started with a punting on their two opening drives in typical Giants fashion. Yet the following drive the defense forced a fumble which quickly led to points. A touchdown pass to Saquon Barkley who made an impressive catch in the endzone on a beautiful ball from DeVito.

DeVito celebrates the touchdown like a true Italian

With five minutes left in the half, DeVito did it again throwing a deep ball to Slayton who was able to make a man miss with a nasty juke move, and take it in for a score. The Commanders went right back down the field the next drive and finished it with an angry run by Sam Howell who bulldozed his way into the endzone making the score 14-9 at half.

The offense cooled down a bit in the beginning of the second half, punting on their first two possessions even when given great field position by the defense who caused two more fumbles. The Giants didn't get another touchdown until the beginning of the fourth when DeVito found Barkley again, this time on an underneath route for T.D.'s third passing touchdown of the day.

Howell then marched down the field and threw a touchdown to Jahan Dotson and suddenly Washington had a chance. On the final possession, the Commanders had the opportunity to take the lead with less than a minute remaining. Howell tried floating a pass to tight end Logan Thomas but it was read perfectly by Giants' linebacker Isaiah Simmons who intercepted the pass and ran it to the house to seal the deal for Big Blue.

The defense came up big so many times yesterday and was absolutely dominant all game long. Six forced turnovers is the best number the team has had all season and gave the offense opportunities to take advantage of a short field. Okereke had another great day with 14 total tackles as well as doing a nice job knocking the ball loose. It was also good to see McKinney involved having double digit total tackles as well. The defensive line did a nice job getting pressure too, with Sexy Dexy and Jihad Ward both getting to Howell once. And of course our rising star Kayvon Thibodeaux added to his impressive sophomore campaign with two more sacks, bringing his total on the season to 10.5.

I also want to give a little shoutout to Tommy DeVito who not only had three pass touchdowns, but also got sacked 9 times and was able to play well despite the constant pressure.

With that said,  I have a lot of mixed feeling after watching this game. Yea sure, it's great to finally win and see a QB throw for three touchdowns (which hasn't happened since 2019), but in all honesty I was rooting for the Commanders all game. I have expressed how I want the Giants to select Caleb Williams in this years' draft but this win may have ruined their chances to do so. The Giants went from holding the second pick to falling all the way to 5th after the W in Washington. Although, there are still seven games left and therefore a lot of opportunities to lose.

And for those of you waiting for the draft like me, this game against New England next week will be really interesting. Not entertaining, but interesting. Beating the Patriots could really hurt the G-Men draft position wise considering the Pats are right ahead of them in the draft order. A loss could be bring them back into the top five and could end up being crucial when April rolls around. Until then lets just enjoy the victory Monday and the feeling of winning while it lasts.

Houston is a Problem

In a wild NBA weekend, the Oklahoma City Thunder won the franchise's first-ever championship, Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles, and Kevin Durant was traded to the Rockets. As crazy as it sounds, the Durant news felt more important to me as an NBA fan than Game 7. The Thunder felt like a team of destiny all playoffs long, and after Haliburton went down, it all but solidified they’d become champs. But this article is focused on the next chapter of KD's career in H-Town. Yesterday afternoon, while on stage at Fanatics Fest in New York, Kevin Durant found out he had been traded to the Houston Rockets in exchange for the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft, five second-round picks, Jalen Green, and NBA “villain” Dillon Brooks. (image via theringer.com) This marks the end of the big three of Booker, Beal, and Durant in Phoenix—yet another failed superteam on KD’s résumé. But this move to Houston feels different. Durant, who admitted Houston was at the top of his preferred destination li...

Sin City, Win City: The Knicks Hold the Cup

THE KNICKS HAVE WON A TROPHY! Last night, the Knicks took on the up-and-coming Spurs in the championship game of the third annual NBA Cup Tournament  in Las Vegas, and walked away with hardware. Sure, not the one that everyone who bleeds orange and blue wants to hold, but you still can't stop me from celebrating! (via @nyknicks on Instagram) After carrying the Knicks to the title game while averaging 33 points per Cup game , Jalen Brunson started slow against the elite defense of Stephon Castle. While Brunson didn’t dominate the scoreboard the way he had earlier in the tournament, he still finished with 25 points and made the shots that mattered most in the fourth quarter.  With that said, this game was ultimately won by New York’s bench . Brunson summed it up perfectly in his postgame interview, "OG Anunoby, Tyler Kolek, Jordan Clarkson, Mitchell Robinson, they played their ass off. Without them, we don’t win this sh*t.”  And yeah, he's absolutely right. Down 10 i...
