a bad day for college football

I don't usually talk a lot about college football on here but after seeing the committee's final decision for College Football Playoff, I wanted to speak my mind.

I have been a Florida State fan since the days of Jameis Winston and Kelvin Benjamin and since those days FSU hasn't exactly been a powerhouse. This year with a strong defense and very talented offense the Noles had a real chance to make to make noise. They did just that going 13-0 and winning the ACC Championship.

They finished the job without the help of their quarterback, Jordan Travis. For reference, Travis was a heisman favorite going into this season after a strong 2022 season. Not to mention, he is statistically one of the best quarterbacks to ever don the garnet and gold and has the most touchdowns responsible for in school history.

In week 11 versus North Alabama, Travis took off to run like he had hundreds of times all season. And due to a hip drop tackle by the defender, Travis got rolled up on and ended up breaking his leg on the play. The injury was both gruesome and devastating for a kid who had so much to play for and had worked so hard to get where he was.

Since the injury to Travis, FSU was able to win that game against North Alabama 58-13, beat rival Florida in the swamp by two scores, and then hold the #16 team in the country to just six points and win the ACC Championship. Solidifying an undefeated season. 13-0.

Yesterday was selection sunday for the College Football Playoff , and most people, including the Noles, assumed they had done enough to get in. But they were wrong.

Committee voters determined this was not the team that they had ranked in the top 4 all season long. College Football Chair, Boo Corrigan, said on ESPN yesterday, "It was an incredible season. But as you look at who they are as a team right now without Jordan Travis and without the offensive dynamic that he brings to it, they are a different team, and the committee voted Alabama No. 4 and Florida State No. 5."

Yet that is no excuse. That team is not one player. And those 52 other men that did their job so well that they managed to win every game, no matter the circumstance. The Noles became the first undefeated, power five conference champion to ever be excluded from the CFP.

Sinful

This is college football's way of trying to not go through another TCU or Cincinnati situation where their playoffs have games that are blowouts But that's not right. The matchups are not what is important. The games are. And when you win all of them you deserve a spot, no matter what.

These kids work their whole lives for this moment. They play collegiate sports with the goal of winning a National Championship in mind. Then they come to work everyday, bust their butts day in and day out, and execute a perfect season. Yet because they are voted not worthy, they are not even given the opportunity to show what they got. Have you ever heard of anything like this in any other sport?

If an undefeated team isn't worthy what is the point of playing games? You might as well vote before the season and vote on which team has the best players on paper. It's not a beauty pagent of who looks the best or who had the coolest games. Its about winning. And if that is no longer important,it's a bad day for college football.

Houston is a Problem

In a wild NBA weekend, the Oklahoma City Thunder won the franchise's first-ever championship, Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles, and Kevin Durant was traded to the Rockets. As crazy as it sounds, the Durant news felt more important to me as an NBA fan than Game 7. The Thunder felt like a team of destiny all playoffs long, and after Haliburton went down, it all but solidified they’d become champs. But this article is focused on the next chapter of KD's career in H-Town. Yesterday afternoon, while on stage at Fanatics Fest in New York, Kevin Durant found out he had been traded to the Houston Rockets in exchange for the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft, five second-round picks, Jalen Green, and NBA “villain” Dillon Brooks. (image via theringer.com) This marks the end of the big three of Booker, Beal, and Durant in Phoenix—yet another failed superteam on KD’s résumé. But this move to Houston feels different. Durant, who admitted Houston was at the top of his preferred destination li...

Sin City, Win City: The Knicks Hold the Cup

THE KNICKS HAVE WON A TROPHY! Last night, the Knicks took on the up-and-coming Spurs in the championship game of the third annual NBA Cup Tournament  in Las Vegas, and walked away with hardware. Sure, not the one that everyone who bleeds orange and blue wants to hold, but you still can't stop me from celebrating! (via @nyknicks on Instagram) After carrying the Knicks to the title game while averaging 33 points per Cup game , Jalen Brunson started slow against the elite defense of Stephon Castle. While Brunson didn’t dominate the scoreboard the way he had earlier in the tournament, he still finished with 25 points and made the shots that mattered most in the fourth quarter.  With that said, this game was ultimately won by New York’s bench . Brunson summed it up perfectly in his postgame interview, "OG Anunoby, Tyler Kolek, Jordan Clarkson, Mitchell Robinson, they played their ass off. Without them, we don’t win this sh*t.”  And yeah, he's absolutely right. Down 10 i...
