skatt's out of the bag

The Giants arrived in Houston after a week that was nothing short of chaotic. Skattebo was benched, Najee Harris was cut, and oh yeah, JJ McCarthy was preparing to make his first career start for Big Blue. All of that, combined with the fact that the Texans came in riding high off two straight division wins, led to New York entering the game as 10.5-point underdogs. But none of that mattered. In what ended up being yet another thriller, the Giants stunned the Texans with a walk-off touchdown in overtime, 27-21. As I mentioned, Cam Skattebo was coming off a week in which he didn't receive a single carry, following a costly fumble in a crucial moment the week prior. But from the opening drive, it was clear that Skattebo was determined to prove his worth.  He ran angry, like the Cam we saw before the ankle injury last year, rushing for 124 yards and a score, including a 42-yard scamper in OT that set up the game-winner from Singletary. As much heat as Harbaugh got for benching him las...

big blue's baffling benchings

This weekend, DomwithaBlog got the opportunity to travel to Green Bay to watch Sunday Night Football against the Cowboys. This resulted in a successful Cowboys hate watch but unfortunately caused a delay in my weekly article. For that, I apologize. But after rewatching the game a few times, I'm ready to deliver my analysis. This one started essentially the exact opposite of every other Giants game under Jameis so far. He made on-target throws, looked confident in the pocket, and took what the defense gave him rather than trying to force plays downfield. He used the dump-off pass to the running backs to his advantage, but with one glaring difference. Cam Skattebo, the Giants' starting RB, was glued to the bench all day long, getting zero carries and zero targets in the passing game, as backups Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary led the way in the lackluster run game.  (image via Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images) That said, this improved Jameis got Big Blue out to an early 10-0...

a dc deadlock

Big Blue has had their fair share of wild finishes over the last few seasons, but yesterday they may have officially outdone themselves. The game started off slow once again for the Giants, as the offense looked lost again, Winston had no time to throw, and the run game was nonexistent, heading into halftime trailing 12-3. Then, to open the half, yet again, Jameis Winston looked like a completely different football player. This is now the third consecutive week that the G-Men have looked abysmal offensively, only to come out guns blazing in the third quarter. The offense went on to score on every possession after halftime for the remainder of regulation. (image via nygiants.com) After a late comeback, Big Blue tied the game up with a Malik Nabers TD with under a minute to go, ultimately sending the game into overtime. The Giants opened things up with another missed field goal, as rookie kicker Dominic Zvada had his welcome-to-the-league moment, going just 2-for-5 on field goal attempts...

take it to the banks

If I had a nickel for every time the Giants made a game-sealing pick on the last play of a game this year...I'd have two nickels. In what was eerily similar to the end of last week's game against the Titans, the Giants had fans on the edge of their seats yet again, with the game on the line late in the fourth. After a horrible pass interference call on Deonte Banks with under a minute to go, Big Blue’s defense faced three straight plays from the five-yard line, needing a stop to win the game. After three consecutive incompletions, Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett went after Banks yet again on the final play of the game. But Banks jumped the pass, picked it off, and returned it all the way for a touchdown. (image via nygiants.com) The defense came out much stronger in the second half, looking like the unit we had hoped they'd be all year. The pick-six was a cherry on top of a phenomenal second half of play calling from Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, who ca...

a wet and wild win (+jj mccarthy trade)

BREAKING : As I am writing this week's article, news just broke that the Giants have traded for the 10th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, QB JJ McCarthy. When coming out of college two years ago, the Giants were strongly considering selecting him to be their QB of the future, but opted to select Malik Nabers instead. For those unfamiliar, McCarthy went undefeated and won the National Championship with John Harbaugh's brother, Jim, at the University of Michigan. He was then drafted by the Vikings, where he missed the entirety of his rookie year with a torn meniscus (similar to Dart's current injury). While he's unproven, the Giants will give up just a 5th-round pick to get him, and with his legs and short-pass accuracy, he could fit well in a system made for Jaxson Dart. He'll likely start as the backup for Jameis, but with a long season ahead, I love the idea of giving him a shot. loss, ambulance

Last week, walking out of MetLife Stadium, it felt as if the Giants had finally emerged from under the gray cloud that had hung over the franchise for more than a decade. And just 8 days later, that feeling has returned tenfold. In what was a Giants-fan-packed SoFi Stadium, I was getting a lot of those same vibes from the Dallas game early on. But Big Blue's high was short-lived, as just seven plays into the game, Jaxson Dart went down holding his left knee. The air was completely sucked out of the stadium as fans held their breath. (Image via @MikeGarafolo on X) As he limped off the field, any hopes of a Giants victory went with him. The Winston-led offense was completely stalled, and the defense had no answer for Rams star receiver Davante Adams, who had 195 receiving yards and two big-time TD catches. The final tally was 28-6 Rams, but the headline is the injury to Jaxson Dart (who could miss the rest of the season) and a few other key Giants. Aside from their young QB, other Gi...

bruisin’ texas

WON-0 ! If you had told me before last night's game the Giants were going to handle Dallas with relative ease, I would have assumed the defense lived up to the preseason hype, holding Dallas to two touchdowns or less. I would've never guessed that the Giants' offensive domination would be the reason. The play calling in this game was some of the best I can remember seeing from a Giants offense. It was the perfect combination of Matt Nagy's creativity and Greg Roman's smashmouth style. The Harbaugh influence was clear too: slow the game down and methodically work the ball down the field. To put that in perspective, the Giants won the time-of-possession battle 36:40 to the Cowboys' 23:20. We saw a heavy dose of everyone's favorite bruser, Cameron Skattebo, especially in the first half. He carried the ball 18 times for 81 yards and a score, but Devin Singletary also made his presence felt. He totaled 38 yards and added a receiving TD while giving Cam some much-...

NFL 2026-27 Award Predictions

It's finally time for my favorite article of the year: NFL Award Predictions! Last year I gave out both the MVP, Matthew Stafford at +4000, and the Offensive Rookie of the Year, Tetairoa McMillan at +1200. Again this year, I'll be including the FanDuel odds next to their name and be giving two names for each award: my honest opinion and a dark horse with great betting odds. Without further ado, let's get started.  Offensive Player of the Year: My Pick: Jahmyr Gibbs (+650) My OPOY award prediction has essentially become an annual Jahmyr Gibbs propaganda piece. But, in my defense, the guy is pretty damn good. Gibbs finished top seven in rushing yards and top five in touchdowns last season, and I only expect those numbers to go up. This offseason, Gibbs' running mate, David Montgomery, was traded to the Houston Texans, leaving Gibbs as the lone bell cow in the Lions' backfield. We saw a glimpse of what he's capable of when he gets 20+ touches a game, and I expect n...

This Quarterback Could Change College Football in 2026

One of the biggest stories in all of college football last season was that former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin would be leaving the Rebels to coach the LSU Tigers. While the news broke in late November, just under two months later, Sam Leavitt committed to become the new man under center for LSU, a match made in football heaven. For those who may not be familiar with Leavitt, he was a four-star recruit entering college and played in just four games for the Michigan State Spartans. He then transferred before his sophomore season, where he led Arizona State to an 11-3 record and a College Football Playoff appearance. That year, he threw for 2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns while adding 443 rushing yards and five scores on the ground. Although current NFL running back Cam Skattebo was the engine of Arizona State's offense, Leavitt's breakout season should not be overlooked. While he undoubtedly benefited from having the human bowling ball lining up beside him, he showcased elite a...

Why Is This Rookie First-Round Pick Sliding Down Fantasy Draft Boards?

Fresh off their Super Bowl championship, the Seattle Seahawks are running it back with one of the league’s most electric offenses. However, there’s one glaring exception: Kenneth Walker (the Super Bowl MVP) is now a Kansas City Chief, leaving a massive question mark at the RB position.   Fantasy Football freaks know now that, like clockwork, when Kenneth Walker is out, Zach Charbonnet is an auto-start in fantasy. The problem is that Charbonnet suffered a devastating injury to his ACL during Seattle’s title run. With him likely spending a majority of the season on the shelf, who’s next up for the Seahawks? (image via Kevin Clark / The Seattle Times) In my mind, the choice is clear: Seattle used its first-round pick on RB Jadarian Price (above) out of Notre Dame because he looks like the next man up. Price played backup to third overall selection Jeremiyah Love last season, but still produced 674 yards and 11 TDs (6 ypc). His intangibles don't jump off the page, but when you wat...

Three NFL Teams Whose Win Totals Don't Make Sense

Cleveland Browns- O/U 6.5 Wins The Browns ended last season with five wins, and Vegas believes Cleveland is going to up that total to seven in 2026. Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that the Browns dealt their former first overall pick and DPOY, Myles Garrett, to the Los Angeles Rams, which will clearly be a big blow to their defense. But the defense is not even the real issue, the QB position is. With Deshaun Watson back from injury and both Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel heading into their second seasons, it's still uncertain who's going to be under center come Week 1. The imminent offensive inconsistency and massive shakeup on defense is going to be too much to overcome for a first-time head coach in Todd Monken. I’d take the under on 6.5 wins for the Brownies. NFL MOCK DRAFT 2026

DOM'S NFL MOCK DRAFT 2026 This 2026 Draft has all the makings of a memorable one. According to multiple sources, this could be one of the most trade-heavy draft days in recent memory. Even in an already unpredictable draft, projecting trades is borderline impossible, so I’ll mostly stick to the current order, mixing in a few where it makes sense.  Let's get into it. 1. Las Vegas Raiders: Fernando Mendoza- QB, Indiana It’s become a trend in my recent mock drafts that the No. 1 overall pick feels like a consensus no-brainer, and that continues here. All signs point to Mendoza as the choice. He’s an elite pocket passer and will have the benefit of learning behind recently acquired Kirk Cousins. The real question isn’t who they choose but how long it takes before Mendoza takes over as the starter. 2. New York Jets: David Bailey- Edge, Texas Tech  Last Wednesday, the Jets canceled their top-30 meeting with Bailey, leaving people confused and leading some to believe New York could b...
